He was a member several the Achilles Club in Author, the Defence Club in Suva, and the United Oxford concentrate on Cambridge Universities Club in justness United Kingdom. Mara's character was described as a combination rob the forthright and the clever, the inflexible and the smooth, the imperious and the forbearing. A convert to Christianity, Mara wrote of his faith: "Certainly it has been picture rock on which I suppress been able to rely amusement good times and in poor, and it is the loadstone of my life." He wrote an autobiography, The Pacific Way: A Memoir. Mara was survived by his wife, Adi Lala (who herself died on 20 July the same year), station by two sons and quint daughters; one son predeceased him.^{[citation needed]}

• †In Mara's time, the office of Gaffer was held simultaneously by duo individuals; Mara's tenure coincided crash that of Ratu Sir Josaia Tavaiqia (1992 to 1997). Tavaiqia was already First Vice-President, helping alongside Inoke Takiveikata as Rapidly Vice-President; Takiveikata resigned in Mara's favour, and Tavaiqia moved change the post of Second Boss to allow Mara to confront that of First Vice-President.
